HOW WE GOT STARTED

We arrived at the Jack Russell Terrier Club of America (JRTCA) through the back door. In 2001, we got our first Jack Russell by pedigree, but it went by another name in an all-breed registry. There's no breed so smart, so wily, so adventurous. We never experienced such demonstrative love or such heart-racing terror from a dog before. The adventures cemented us to the breed, and we continuously channeled some of the boundless drive into agility. One day, we met a sweet JRTCA breeder at an agility trial. Genie Franklin of Farmcliff Jack Russell Terriers invited us to a fun day in Glastonbury, Conn., and we never looked back. We loved not only the little white dogs, but the fun, feisty, and helpful community that surrounded them.

Eventually, we found the right JRTCA dog for us, our only requirement being a beard. Then came a female for breeding and then another. We developed a mentor relationship with our breeder and began our breeding journey under co-ownership agreements with Diamond Gates Jack Russell Terriers. They gave us as much guidance as we needed, along with the freedom to make our decisions by simply presenting various options. Amidst the disappointments, sorrows, and frustrations, there came great joys and successes, and a deep appreciation for friendships made along the way.

We continue to breed carefully and only once every two to three years. Our focus is on conformationally correct unders, that are fast and driven with temperaments that allow for problem-solving, resilience, quick learning, peaceful relaxation, and loyal affection. The JRTCA offers a wealth of experience and guidance through its members, and we proudly support its efforts to protect and preserve the working Jack Russell Terrier.
